1. Unit’s History

The Postgraduate School obtained a National University Commission (NUC) approval on 29th October, 2009 and commenced academic activities on 12th January, 2011 with Professor P. Olutiola as the Pioneer Dean. Since then the School has experienced tremendous growth under the leadership of Professor O. R. Adeniyi.

The School started with less than ten (10) students and the population has grown to about one hundred and thirty-six (136) students as at the first semester of the 2018/19 academic session, while the first set of intakes graduated in November, 2012.

  1. Vision and Mission Statements

This is geared towards producing godly graduates with advanced understanding and knowledge acquired in line with global trends, as well as to strengthen their research capability to prepare them for future challenges of life.

  1. Objectives

The Objectives of the School are to:

  1. enable graduates acquire advanced skills and competence in their areas of specialization.
  1. train them to develop ability for critical judgment through a broad knowledge of theoretical and practical issues.
  2. produce the much needed manpower for the advancement of mankind and development of the nation.
  3. enable graduates learn the techniques of problem solving through academic interactions and researches.
  1. Welcome Address by the Dean, Postgraduate School

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to this great Institution, Bowen University and of course the Postgraduate School which is a subset of the University. I wish to quickly say that Bowen is noted for Excellence and Godliness and of course its zero tolerance to anti-social behaviours in the society and among our students.

The University has standard and quality academic staff to teach the students and conduct researches in the various fields of studies. The graduate students whom we train here are comparable to their colleagues around the Globe academically and in addition, our team here excels in unquestionable character and moral values. Reports from employers of our graduates both within and outside are satisfactorily competitive. It is of a thing of pride to associate with graduate alumni of Bowen University.

In terms of world-wide acceptability of our graduate trainees, our rating is comparatively higher in contemporariness of quality. The University Library (Olagbemiro Library) is equipped with up-to-date books and E-resources for Postgraduate studies. In order to check the quality of our students’ theses the University has a Resource Centre for checking Plagiarism. On this note, once again, I welcome you to this school where quality and excellence is our watchword and Godliness is our motto.

  1. Activities of the Unit

The Postgraduate School is basically involved with the Coordination of Postgraduate programmes through the Departments and Faculties for the award of Postgraduate Diploma, Masters (academic and professional) and Doctor of Philosophy Degrees.

Activities such as Pre-Field, Post-Field, Comprehensive and Oral Examinations

are organized in collaboration with the Departments. Departmental Seminars for Postgraduate Students are held constantly to improve their research skills. Also Postgraduate school Seminars are organized periodically to bring about collaborative thinking and sharing of ideas across all Departments and Faculties.

  1. Concluding Statements

The School of Postgraduate Studies of Bowen University has grown over the years and has graduated over a hundred Masters’ and nine (9) PhD degree students in various disciplines. The 12th Convocation held on 10th November, 2018 showcased the Postgraduate School with the graduation of Seven (7) PhD, Sixteen (16) Masters and six (6) Postgraduate Diploma students. We use this as an occasion to thank the University Management for providing the enabling environment for carrying out our assignment successfully over the years.

With the support of the Departments and Faculties, the School is ready to admit more students for improved manpower development, while counting on the continuous support of the University Management.
